philosophy

i have a habit of bringing things home.

scraps of fabric. discarded words. curious objects. things that caught my attention for reasons i can’t always explain.

i love finding out what happens when something is looked at like an infant, with an unbiased perspective & wonder.

we spend a lot of time deciding what’s worth keeping. what’s useful, what’s beautiful, what’s appropriate, what’s welcome, & what to let go of
…
i’m not entirely convinced any of us know what the fuck we’re talking about.

there’s a lot to be said for puzzling something out of what’s available. especially when what’s available is garbage.

sometimes things get taken apart & made into other things. sometimes they’re perfectly fine as they are. sometimes an idea is so profoundly stupid that it really must come to be.

i think all of these are worthwhile pursuits.

i'm drawn to curiosity, resourcefulness, transformation, & the peculiar things that manage to persist despite everything.

there’s value in questioning what we’re taught to disregard, including the things (& creatures) we’re told are undesirable.

i also believe there’s value in exercising our free will to be ridiculous.

some things are jokes. some things are deeply personal. often they’re the same thing, but sometimes things mean absolutely nothing.

not everything needs to be useful.
not everything needs to be beautiful.
not everything needs to make sense.

& things rarely turn out how they’re supposed to.

this isn't necessarily a problem.

roachcraft is my living corner of the internet; a place with its own secrets, to make things, collect things, try things, change my mind, & document whatever comes of it.

it’s a work in progress.
so am i.
